Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou explains Kyogo’s absence for the Rangers game

ANGE POSTECOGLOU explains why Celtic star Kyogo missed yesterday’s derby with Rangers.

The Japanese forward recently recovered from a prolonged hamstring injury that had left him out for more than three months.

He did not play from Santo Stefano after a tumultuous first half of the season, as the year in which he scored 16 goals in all competitions came from the summer.

But Postecglou announced last week that he could potentially build his roster for Sunday’s Rangers game.

However, Kyogo was nowhere to be found – as Hoops’ boss explained, there was no point in risking a long-term absence.

He hinted that a comeback against St Johnstone could be under discussion this weekend.

He told BBC Sportsound: “Yes, he will be fine (facing St Johnstone).

“He was looking forward to playing today, but we have great games when we come in.

“He is a very important player for us and I thought we could have done it without him today.

“To be honest, he tried everything. Wherever I turned, he would appear in front of me to make sure I knew he was ready to go.

“I couldn’t walk around Lennoxtown without seeing it.

“But we’ll keep it on ice. It’s ready, it will be fine, and it will be included next week.
