Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst throws “arrogant” insult before Red Star Belgrade match –

GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst today denied allegations that Rangers players have become “arrogant” after their historic victory over Europa League favorite Borussia Dortmund, stressing that they will face Red Star Belgrade’s last 16 rivals with full respect.

After winning 4-2 away and drawing 2-2 at home last month, the Scottish champion achieved a famous 6-4 win over German rival Dortmund in the knockout stage.

Former Rangers and Red Star midfielder Dragan Mladenovic, who is currently the Serbian giants academy coach, said beating the Bundesliga squad this week gave James Tavernier and his teammates too much safety.

However, Van Bronckhorst denied the accusation and stressed that his accusations would have taken seriously the men of Dejan Stankovic, who has won four consecutive titles and reached the top of the groups of the Europa League.

“Why are we arrogant? “she said.” I don’t see any of my players being arrogant – we’re very humble right now.

We enjoy being in Europe, but we respect every opponent we face and I don’t see any signs of arrogance in my team, me or the club.

“We are delighted to be on this tour and will do everything we can to win this draw. However, the word that comes to my mind when my players are preparing for this match is not arrogance.

Van Bronckhorst said: “Of course we are happy to have beaten Dortmund. It will be difficult again with the opponent we are facing now. They were the first of the group in their group. But we’re starting all over again.

“We want to be in the next round, we are working hard and preparing well to be ready for tomorrow as we have done in previous games. I believe we will get a good result. But every game is difficult in Europe. We are doing everything we can to move on to the next round.
