Founded in 2012, Coinbase became the first cryptocurrency exchange to be listed on a US exchange in April last year. Now his story has been made into a documentary called CURRENCYdirected by Greg Kohs.
The movie COIN, which will be released this Friday (7), is available on Amazon Prime, iTunes and YouTube itself. The cast includes big names such as Vitalik Buterin, Michael Saylor and of course Brian Armstrong, founder of Coinbase.
According to Armstrong, CEO Greg had unprecedented access to his company. This allowed him and his team to capture all the ups and downs of building a tech startup.
“He shows it all – the good, the bad and the ugly.”
Following this, the director also notes that he has accepted the film’s proposal to: “encouraging more people to start a business”like “Demystify cryptocurrencies”.
Starting a business is hard, Coinbase founder says
With its shares currently trading for $72.29 on Nasdaq, Coinbase today has a market cap of $16.26 billion. Still, Brian Armstrong points out that starting a business is not an easy task.
“As the saying goes, starting a business is like chewing glass and staring into the abyss”says Brian Armstrong of Coinbase. “It takes incredible determination and a bit of luck. But if you’re successful, you can change the world and create tremendous value for millions of people.”
Despite the impressive amount, it’s worth remembering that the shares are 83% lower than the price quoted in April last year, when the company went public. The challenges therefore not only remain, but have also increased in size.
More about the COIN movie that tells the story of Coinbase
About director Greg Kohs, Armstrong says that he came into contact with him after seeing AlphaGo (2017), a film that tells how Google’s artificial intelligence stood against the then world champion Go in a series of 5 matches.
“It was a powerful story and that convinced me to trust him to tell ours.”
In addition to Armstrong, the documentary will also feature Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum, and Michael Saylor, founder of MicroStrategy.
The premiere is scheduled for this Friday (7) on Prime, iTunes and YouTube services. The COIN movie trailer can be viewed below.
