Cryptocurrency exchange CEO arrested for killing girlfriend by throwing her from 19th floor

After his girlfriend asked for a divorce, the CEO of a South Korean cryptocurrency exchange ended up killing the woman. The lawsuit points to the director allegedly pushing the victim off the 19th floor of a building after stabbing her multiple times.

Therefore, it is possible that the warden threw his girlfriend out of the building to try to make it look like her death was an accident, that is, to get off the murder charge.

The case took place on November 17 last year, but the verdict was not released until this Thursday (1). The CEO was sentenced to 25 years in prison, in addition to a fine of 3.05 million won – about R$12,000 at current exchange rates.

Lawsuit Cites CEO Had Drug Problem

The executive, known only as Kim, attempted to appeal the court’s decision in July this year, but his appeal was rejected. His defense pointed out that the 33-year-old man had psychological problems.

He continues and also mentions that the warden would have problems with drugs, especially the use of ketamine, which is known to be used to sedate horses.

However, the judge in charge of the case ruled that Kim “possessed normal judgment skills”, referring to his work in the cryptocurrency industry. Therefore, the CEO was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday (1).

The identity of the victim has not been released to the public, but local media said the young woman was in her 20s.

As for crime, it is noted that the director stabbed his girlfriend several times on the emergency stairs of a building in Seocho-gu, a neighborhood of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. He later threw the young woman’s body from the 19th floor of the same building, resulting in her death.

The CEO has not disclosed his full name, nor is there any information about which brokerage the man ran.

Deaths Shock Cryptocurrency Industry

More recently, three other cases shocked the cryptocurrency industry. The first death is that of the founder of MakerDAO, found dead on a beach in Puerto Rico after accusing the CIA of sex trafficking.

The second is the death of Tiantian Kullander, founder of a billion-dollar company, who died in his sleep at the age of 30. The third case is the death of another cryptocurrency billionaire in a helicopter crash during an open day, a fact that caught the attention of the public.

Finally, even though the cases are unrelated, the short time between cases is intriguing, especially because of the unique circumstances of each.
