Trump accused of plagiarism with NFT collection

Donald Trump, the former US president, announced on Thursday (15) via Truth Social, the social network he launched last year, the launch of a collection of 45,000 non-fungible tokens (NFT).

The day after the launch, Trump’s collection of NFTs sold out, with a trading volume of $1.08 million, according to OpenSea.

However, the reception of the NFTs has drawn criticism, with Twitter users pointing out that the artwork appears to be based on copyrighted photos.

“It appears that Donald Trump’s NFT image of himself as a cowboy comes from an Amazon image that has been slightly modified.” 🇧🇷 said journalist Matthew Sheffield.

Another Trump NFT – showing the former president as a fighter pilot – looks extremely similar to a Shutterstock image, with many of them resembling freely available backgrounds.

The company responsible for creating the artwork, NFT INT LLC, did not say whether it paid for the license to use the images, and the CryptoVinco website said Trump could face prosecution for possible misuse of the photos .

Several other images — including a space suit — have previously been spotted on clothing websites and even random photos on the Internet, users said.

The total market value of TRUMP’s NFTs as of Monday was $16 million. Despite an impressive start, the minimum price of NFTs is down about 50% in the last 24 hours.

While Trump has denied allegations of political fundraising for his 2024 presidential bid, the mood is different on different social media platforms.

Trump had already announced via Truth Social that he was about to make a big announcement, which turned out to be the Trump Digital Trading Cards NFTs.

The reception was overwhelming compared to other similar projects. In addition, NFTs based on the Polygon network rank second in activity, behind only MineablePunks (MPUNKS).

The top-selling NFT on OpenSea went for 37 ETH on Saturday — or about $41,000 at current prices. The black and white image is an image of Trump dressed in a tuxedo standing in front of a staircase.

The collection was announced with a starting price of $99, which includes a one-on-one meeting with Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago. It also guaranteed anyone who bought 45 NFTs a ticket to a gala dinner with Trump in South Florida.
