In partnership with USP, Bradesco aims to explore the cryptocurrency market

Bradesco has entered into an important partnership with the University of São Paulo (USP) to better study the blockchain and cryptocurrency market, demonstrating its interest in learning about applications with new emerging technologies.

In addition, the bank wants research in the field of artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing and the Internet of Things.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Bank and the University took place on February 16, 2023, with a ceremony in the Dean’s Office, in the rectory building in São Paulo.

Bradesco and USP want to discover more about the cryptocurrency market

During the interinstitutional cooperation ceremony, the dean of USP, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, emphasized that innovation is one of the pillars of his governance.

So he understands that there are currently two focal points, one in the development of public policy and the other in innovation.

“Innovation must come about in co-participation with companies, the market and the public sector, which is why we must increasingly bring this type of partnership into USP.”

According to Jornal da USP, the dean of USP reminded that several initiatives at the university are already aimed at stimulating innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Bradesco, Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi, also attended the event and was pleased to participate in the new study along with the USP Innovation Center (InovaUSP).

“Collaboration is able to give the innovative process the agility it requires. We are a bank that believes in innovation and we need external talent, and that is through the partnership with InovaUSP.”

The bank has sponsored research at the university on other occasions

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Bradesco USP research helped develop a low-cost emergency lung ventilator to address the health crisis caused by the disease.

For the Dean of Research and Innovation at USP, Paulo Alberto Nussenzveig, Bradesco is taking an assertive stance in supporting research in Brazil.

“It is very good to see this assertive attitude from Bradesco. We know that a healthy innovation ecosystem can only get off the ground if there is very close cooperation between the three sectors: science, business and government. It is becoming increasingly clear that innovation in an age of science is indeed one of the university’s missions.”

It is worth remembering that in January 2023, Bradesco had already left open the possibility of opening its own cryptocurrency brokerage. In other words, it seems that the plans of the bank, one of the largest in Brazil, also include market research support.
