Cryptocurrency project based on ‘Artificial Intelligence robot’ applies BRL 5 million scam

While the world is still in awe of artificial intelligence (AI) based programs, some people are trying to ride the waves and invest in projects in this sector. However, this does not always end well.

In a complaint filed this Sunday (19), the team from the security firm Certik points out that an AI-based cryptocurrency project has employed a scam of nearly R$5 million.

“We can confirm that Harvest Keeper is a scam. At the time of writing, we can claim that approximately $933,000 (R$4.88 million) has been stolen from users. Revoke permissions. No interaction with the project URL.”

In more detail, Certik explains that there was a loophole in Harvest Keeper’s smart contract that allowed scammers to leak victims’ funds to their address.

Finally, the attack also allegedly used a technique called “ice fishing.” That is, victims were robbed right after granting access privileges to their wallets.

What was the Harvest Keeper?

Anyone who has the slightest affinity with the financial market will soon see that the project was a scam. On its social media, Harvest Keeper promised to double investors’ money in just 21 days with the help of artificial intelligence.

“Increase your capital by 101% in just 21 days with the Harvest Keeper AI robot”points to the cover image of the project on Twitter.

“An innovative AI-based project that optimizes the trading process for maximum profit and rewards users with a fixed, daily payout of 4.81% on the amount deposited!”

Harvest Keeper Twitter, scam that used the term “artificial intelligence” to attract victims and steal about R$5 million.

Despite the R$ 5 million theft warning this Sunday (19), the page continues to publish, probably planned.

The great hype of artificial intelligence

The best example of public interest in artificial intelligence was ChatGPT. Two months after its launch, the project already had more than 100 million active users.

By comparison, it took Instagram two and a half years to reach this point. TikTok, nine months from now.

Therefore, every project created after ChatGPT’s success deserves a thorough analysis. While Harvest Keeper had clear signs of being a scam, several others may be more subtle and take advantage of the hype of the moment to trick investors and disappear with their money.

A good example is the case of the American who was arrested last week after running a BRL 4.2 million scam involving an artificial intelligence robot that never lost.
