The company sends BRL 7.5 million in bitcoin to the moon and anyone can pick it up

The social intelligence company Lunar Crush announced that it will send a treasury of 62 bitcoins (worth about R$7.5 million) to the moon.

The fortune in Bitcoin, called Nakamoto_1can be unlocked by the first space traveler to reach the moon and retrieve the private key from the wallet that will be registered in a command post to be launched into space later this year.

The bitcoin wallet will be sent to the moon via a SpaceX launch in the fall of 2023, and the company guarantees that the wallet will remain secure as even the employees won’t know the password. That said, the wallet address will be public, meaning anyone can contribute to increase the amount to be redeemed.

LunarCrush has teamed up with Lunar Outpost, the world leader in commercial planetary mobility, to send the lunar treasure chest to the moon. Animation studio Golden Wolf and developer tools company Bitcoin Hiro teamed up with LunarCrush to create the Bitcoin reward.

These technology and design partners have created a collection of NFTs and will be selling them to raise money for the Bitcoin bounty. The goal of this Web3 powered space race is to inspire the next generation of interplanetary exploration.

Sell NFTs

To fund the bounty, LunarCrush will be selling a special collection of Bitcoin-backed NFTs starting March 28 at lunarcrush.com/nakamoto1.

Twenty-five percent of NFT sales will go toward funding the Treasure Chest, and twenty-five percent of sales will go toward funding a “Community Marketing Portfolio,” which will go toward funding the development of Bitcoin and related causes.

NFTs will be priced at $250. Secondary sales of NFTs on the Gamma.io marketplace, along with any contributions to the Public Purse, will further increase the value of the Treasury sent to the Moon.

How to recover bitcoins sent to the moon?

According to the company, the private key affixed to the rover will be fully documented to ensure transparency and security. Once the Lunar Outpost MAPP Rover lands on the moon, anyone on Earth can come up with a plan to reach the moon and unlock the digital gold reward.

The rover will be launched to the moon on a SpaceX rocket by Elon Musk in the fourth quarter of this year, but the exact date has not yet been revealed for safety reasons.

Bitcoin was chosen as the treasury currency because it is a decentralized cryptocurrency that can be used anywhere in the world. LunarCrush hopes that the creation of this treasure chest will inspire the next generation to explore new horizons in interplanetary exploration.
