Brazilian creates Web3 project for seniors and wins Visa contest

Visa has announced the five nominees for its global program to encourage digital artists and creators: the Visa Creator Program. One of the winners of the competition is the Brazilian Alfonso de Orte, who developed Oldway.

The platform aims to assist in the reintegration of the elderly into a productive environment, both social and rewarding.

With this initiative, the company aims to help emerging artists from various segments leverage their projects through non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Alfonso (68), born in Rio de Janeiro, started his artistic career as a product photographer for supermarkets and department stores. After becoming interested in photographic optics, he decided to study physics at university, where he later specialized in radiographic imaging.

With an established career as a medical physicist and successful businessman, Alfonso was still looking for more challenges and found the necessary stimulus in digital art and in the universe of NFTs and artificial intelligence.

Fluent in five languages, he considers himself a multimedia artist working in various artistic approaches such as photography, watercolor, pencil drawing, urban planning and digital art.

According to the artist, he believes Visa’s help will enable him to take senior citizens to the metaverse, to Web3 and NFTs.

“Not so long ago there were few people over 60 who were connected to the digital world and its technologies. Today this is no longer a problem. That’s why I want to take the next step. My big challenge is to include the senior community in the metaverse. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I believe Visa will be instrumental in my mission to be a spokesperson for this group and bring inclusion, wellness and re-socialization through Oldway. Through Web3 and NFTs, the platform will offer a series of courses such as painting, legal advice, personal stylist aimed at improving users’ self-esteem, among many other activities, including some that can be performed in person.”

Visa manager in Latin America highlights the potential of the digital economy

Visa’s Digital Creator Incentive Program is aimed at artists, musicians, fashion designers and filmmakers who want to incorporate NFTs into their business model, whether they have experience with NFT launches or not.

To develop more proficiency in cryptocurrency trading and traditional payments, the company selected a group of creators for a year of immersion and mentorship, with support in five areas.

For Catalina Tobar, Head of Crypto Solutions at Visa Latin America and the Caribbean, Visa (NYSE: V) approaches the digital arts.

“Through the Visa Creator Program, we are highlighting Visa’s efforts to move ever closer to the digital art universe, including that of non-traditional and disruptive models such as the creator economy. We want to help connect the companies of emerging digital makers to a multi-billion dollar market by increasing access to the digital economy.”

In addition to the Brazilian artist, Gus Sarkodee (Ghana), Kaz Cai (Singapore), Lacie Thorne (United States) and Violeta Valcheva (Spain) were selected for the immersion program.
