Ethereum based smartphone operating system launched, check out the features

called EthereumPhoneOr just ethosthis smartphone operating system enables direct integration with the Ethereum ecosystem and promises to be the next revolution in mobile systems.

In the latest version, 2.1, released a few weeks ago, it is of course possible to find a native Ethereum wallet, where it is also possible to switch between other blockchains.

Since the entire Ethereum blockchain is about 1 terabyte (TB) today, the developers chose to use a Light Node to connect to the network. That is, the security is slightly lower than a Full Node, but it is enough for most users.

“A Light Node is a lightweight Ethereum node with fewer resources that, instead of downloading all blocks, only downloads the block headers that contain a summary of the information”explains the project’s website. “If a light node needs additional information in a block, it should request it from a Full Node.”

In addition, the operating system includes other useful applications for those living in the Ethereum ecosystem. For example, there is a native application for creating your own NFTs.

What smartphones does the Ethereum-integrated operating system work on?

According to the project’s website, ethOS is only available for three models of Pixel smartphones made by Google. These are: Pixel 3, Pixel 3XL and Pixel 5a.

While the rationale for its development is not clear, some excerpts cited by the team show dissatisfaction with the prevailing standard in the industry. For example, the giant Apple has recently declared war on some cryptocurrency apps on iOS.

As expected, the EthereumPhone project is open source and available on GitHub. Finally, it is worth noting that the operating system is created based on LineageOS, another open operating system for Android.

While it’s too early to say the model will become an industry standard, to the point of scaring Google and Apple, ethOS describes itself as a “mobile3” project. That is, a step beyond the web3 on regular mobile devices.
