A miner from São Tomé das Letras spoke to Livecoins about the project Bitcoin mountainthat hopes to replicate Bitcoin Beach Brasil, a mass adoption experiment that was successful in Jericoacoara (CE).
Responsible for the project is Lucas Leiva, born in São Tomé das Letras, a city known for its beautiful mountain landscapes and a certain mystique.
But Lucas guarantees the place is the “real citadel” and a perfect environment to test a circular economy with bitcoin. According to him, the city’s businesses have already tested payment solutions with cryptocurrencies through Dash in the past, but now he plans to develop bitcoin adoption, replicating his knowledge gained in recent months.
Community of São Thomé das Letras experimented with cryptocurrencies
After learning about bitcoin in 2017, Lucas Leiva, an agronomist by training, says he has become better acquainted with the market and even traded with brokers. With the pandemic, he scoured the market for more information and got to know the technology even better.
Struck by the lack of tourists, the community of residents of São Thomé das Letras even thought about creating their own cryptocurrency. With the plan abandoned, the city hosted Dash community events and experimented with cryptocurrency technology.
Many enjoyed the experience and then studied the cryptocurrency market even more afterwards, Lucas recalls. Eventually, he became interested in working with the market and helped an international brokerage to arrive in Brazil.
In 2022, he focused on cryptocurrency infrastructure and even won a DeFi hackthon. But he remembers always liking bitcoin more than cryptocurrencies, and has focused on technology.
Internship at Bitcoin Beach Brasil prompted a miner to plan Bitcoin Mountain
In 2023, he was invited to participate in the world’s first Bitcoin Carnival, in Jericoacoara, arriving in the city days early to help produce the event, which hosted people from all over the world. Lucas recalls that the experience moved him, seeing experiences from El Salvador and Africa presented in lectures by bitcoiners who came to Brazil.
In addition, he helped the Bitcoin Beach Brasil team break the lightning fast transaction record, which further motivated him to work with the new technology.
“Forget Visa, Bitcoin’s Lightning Network is much faster”, says the enthusiast. He stays in Jericoacora, even after carnival, doing an internship of sorts with Fernando Motolese and Vinícius Kinczel (Palavra de Satoshi), the co-founders of the country’s pioneering bitcoin experiment.
His plan now includes learning as much as he can about what Bitcoin Beach is doing with the local community, replicating everything in São Thomé das Letras, a city relatively close to three major capitals in the Southeast, namely São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizontal. .

“Karate Kid” training in bitcoin
Speaking to Livecoins, Fernando Motolese, founder of Bitcoin Beach Brasil, explains that Lucas Leiva went through the training in stages, as if he were a “Daniel Sam.”
“Lucas’s training was like Daniel Sam’s in Karate Kid. Every task he took part in brought with it an important lesson, which he would later need to overcome the challenges of building the local economy. We act with noble causes and for the good of children, carry the message of peace money and lead the peaceful revolution.”
After stirring up the community in Jericoacoara, he believes that São Thomé das Letras could be the next city to see the adoption of the currency.
“I believe that the community will be in good hands and that São Thomé das Letras will become a very popular destination for bitcoiners from all over the world. To do this, we need bitcoin fractional donations to prove a second time that the Praia Bitcoin model works and that well-meaning individuals can make a difference in small communities.”
Another circular Bitcoin economy is emerging in Brazil.
It will take place in São Thomé das Letras… a paradise in the mountains of Minas Gerais….#Bitcoin https://t.co/EZzKxAKVQk

Project awaits donations to prove that mass adoption of bitcoin in Brazil should increase
Lucas Leiva says he paid for everything in bitcoin in Jericoacora and hopes bitcoin will become the new social currency of his hometown.
To that end, he created a campaign for donors from around the world to send satoshis to the birth of the project, which aims to accelerate the currency’s adoption. The aim is to collect a minimum of 1 Bitcoin to fund the opening of channels and provide liquidity for Lightning Network transactions.
As he prepares, Lucas believes bitcoin is the ultimate technology, the only currency he believes has the power to give people financial freedom. To carry out the mission he took on, he reports that he works 12 to 15 hours a day for a better future for his city.
“The lightning payment system developed in Jericoacoara is the best in the world today. Bitcoin as a means of payment on lightning is very good.”
In the future, he believes more cities will be able to replicate the knowledge from Jericoacoara that he wants to bring to the interior of Minas Gerais.
