The London Stock Exchange is now offering Bitcoin derivatives trading. The announcement was made this Thursday (13) by LCH and is in partnership with GFO-X, a UK firm specializing in cryptocurrency futures contracts.
Despite not being spot transactions, the introduction of Bitcoin into the UK’s traditional financial sector will fuel institutional demand for the largest cryptocurrency on the market.
It is also worth remembering that the UK has one of the strictest policies regarding cryptocurrencies. For example, several UK banks already have limited deposits to brokers and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is closely monitoring the industry.
Bitcoin is about to debut on the London Stock Exchange
The offering of Bitcoin futures contracts on the London Stock Exchange is part of a partnership between LCH and GFO-X, a company that has FCA approval to operate in the region.
As a highlight, business leaders cited the need for a secure environment for Bitcoin trading. After all, we constantly see cryptocurrency exchanges being hacked.
“Bitcoin index futures and options are a fast-growing asset class with growing interest among institutional market participants seeking entry within a regulated environment they are familiar with”wrote Frank Soussan, head of LCH’s new division, DigitalAssetClear.
“Recent events in digital asset trading have highlighted the need for a safe and regulated place where major financial institutions can trade at scale while protecting their clients’ assets”completed Arnab Sen, CEO and co-founder of GFO-X.
As for the launch date of Bitcoin futures on the London Stock Exchange, it is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2023. Companies await regulatory approval.
