The Bitcoin Car, a Toyota Prius that “cost” 1000 bitcoins in 2013, about R$134 million at the current price in bitcoin, was sold last Saturday (20). The sale took place at auction during the Bitcoin2023 event.
With the sale, the vehicle’s owner, Rassah, a longtime bitcoin enthusiast, passed on the Toyota that has historical significance to someone else. Rassah adopted bitcoin as a currency several years ago and his millionaire’s car went down in bitcoin history.
During the auction that started on the 18th and ended on the 20th, Rassah received 1.2 bitcoin as payment for the car.
Bitcoin car won celebrity signatures before the auction
While participating in Bitcoin2023, the first Bitcoin Car won many accolades for its contribution to the digital currency’s payment history. Some famous people from the community took the opportunity to sign the legendary car.

Besides Pizza Bitcoin, the Toyota Prius has become historic for the community. In addition, it shows how much bitcoin has increased in value in recent years.
When it was acquired by Rassah in 2013, the 1,000 bitcoins spent to buy the vehicle cost just $22,000. In 2021, at the peak of bitcoin’s historic valuation, the same thousand bitcoins were worth $69 million. That is a significant increase of 313,000% between 2013 and 2021.
Today, the same 1,000 bitcoins would still cost a mere 134 million reais, which means the car has seen a major surge in bitcoin, even though its owner has lost big numbers in recent years.
120 million satoshis auctioned
Although Rassah has lost a lot of money in recent years by handing over 1,000 bitcoins for a Toyota Prius, he has a lot of history to tell.
One involves the fact that after buying a vehicle for $22,000 in 2013, he managed to sell it for $32,000 a decade later.
In addition, the former supporter of bitcoin received 120 million satoshis with the sale for 1.2 bitcoin. That is, he still has a few million, although it is of the smallest unit of bitcoin.
Those who bid on the auction won a souvenir NFT
Participation in the auction of the first Bitcoin Car also gave those interested in the vehicle the opportunity to win an NFT as proof of bids.
Since 2013, the Toyota Prius has participated in 30 events and attracted thousands of people interested in its history.
