John R. Forsyth, 49, was reported missing on May 21, and the next day police in Cassville, a small American town, began a search.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Richard Forsyth said his brother was found dead on Tuesday, 30.
His vehicle, a black Infiniti, was found in a remote area near a city water park. In the car, authorities found his wallet, two phones and a laptop.
John Forsyth was a cryptocurrency millionaire
News of John Forsyth’s death quickly began to circulate among the cryptocurrency community. After all, several millionaires and billionaires in the sector have lost their lives in recent months, with various theories emerging.
Forsyth is another one to enter this statistic. In addition to his work as a doctor in the American city of Cassville, he was also a cryptocurrency enthusiast, having even created his own Onfocoin.
In an article published by Forbes in 2020, the year Bitcoin had not yet taken off, Forsyth is described as a “Cryptocurrency Millionaire”.
“It became clear to me that math-based currencies (such as bitcoin) would eventually replace sovereign notes”noted John Forsyth at the time. “I have been mining and storing Bitcoin and Litecoin from a very early age.”
“The massive appreciation of these assets allowed me to invest in another cryptocurrency technology that eventually led to the development of Onfo, a platform that helps people make money through mining.”
Despite being created in 2018, Onfocoin doesn’t seem to have taken off. After all, it doesn’t even appear on major sites like CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko.
Death of cryptocurrency millionaire still has no explanation and sparks conspiracy theories
According to his brother, Richard, John Forsyth seemed quite happy as he was in a new relationship and his divorce was finalized on May 11.
“We had dinner the Wednesday before he disappeared and we sat and talked for three hours. I told him this is the happiest thing I’ve seen him in a long time.”
On his LinkedIn, Forsyth calls himself the founder of the ONFO cryptocurrency, noting his interest in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and cryptocurrencies. However, there is no evidence to believe that cryptocurrencies had any involvement in his death.
Finally, his brother pointed out that John Forsyth worked at Cassville Hospital for 15 years, describing him as “as a loving father, general practitioner and part-time math nerd”.
