Discord Channel Spreads “Free Cryptocurrency” But Receives Scam Warning

In a new case of online fraud, scammers are taking advantage of the popular communication platform Disagreement to lure unsuspecting users and steal their money. Using a custom URL called “BNBChain”, criminals created a fake and malicious server disguised as “BNB Chain” to trick their victims.

When logging into the server, users are tricked into performing a suspicious action that results in the loss of their funds.

The situation raises serious concerns about cybersecurity and the need for continuous vigilance from users.

Understand what happened to fake BNB distribution promised in official BNB Chain Discord

In this case, criminals exploited a custom URL called “BNBChain”, supposedly associated with the “BNB Chain” brand, to create a fake and malicious server.

In a note, BNB Chain’s official Twitter profile warned the entire community that it does not promote any distribution of cryptocurrencies. In addition, they ask users not to plug their wallets into the bogus promotion.

“Our custom Discord URL (BNBChain) is currently being used by scammers to trick unsuspecting users into joining a fake and malicious Discord server. The server is disguised with the BNB Chain branding, but upon login there is a request to ‘Connect Wallet’. This is a scam and if you connect your wallet you will lose your money. Please be careful until we can confirm a solution.”

It is important to point out that the “Connect Wallet” request was a scam and should not be linked publicly. The consequences of hasty action can be disastrous for victims, leading to missed savings and investments. However, BNB Chain has not disclosed whether there are any victims in the case.

The case arose after Binance received an SEC lawsuit. BNB Chain takes back control of Discord, apologizes

It is worth remembering that the BNB Chain project is linked to the Binance ecosystem, which has been sued in recent days by the SEC, the US CVM. With that, the scammers took advantage of the case to promise the fake distribution of cryptocurrencies and attack the project’s server.

Last Tuesday (6) the profile confirmed who restored ownership of their Discord BNBChain, took control and removed the fake promotions from the hackers.

“Discord Update. We are pleased to announce that the custom BNBChain URL has been restored to our Discord server and all issues should be resolved. We are taking the necessary steps to secure the server and mitigate any future issues. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you again for your patience and support!”

The “BNBChain” custom URL incident on Discord serves as a striking reminder of how cybersecurity is a growing concern.

To protect against these scams, it is essential that users are vigilant, aware of the latest security practices, and have a healthy sense of suspicion when dealing with suspicious requests.

The responsibility lies as much with users, who must be careful, as with platforms and services, who must constantly improve their protective measures to combat these ever-evolving threats.
