Alderman says he has almost lost his mandate because of the bitcoin pyramid

Current Curitiba councilman Eder Bordes (PP-PR) nearly lost his mandate, saying a bitcoin pyramid is to blame.

The councilman resumed his duties last Tuesday (29), when he announced the end of the pending lawsuits against him in the electoral and state court.

The MP’s troubles began in 2016, when he ran for councilor and there was an error in the presentation of his accounts. The mistake came about because his former lawyer got involved in Bitcoin pyramids, which caused him problems for years.

But he was elected in 2020 and the error from 2016 resurfaced, with several requests to remove his mandate.

“My lawyer got involved in bitcoin pyramids and forgot to provide my campaign bills,” says Curitiba councilor who was nearly impeached

According to the Curitiba City Council, the now relieved alderman spoke about celebrating closed processes.

The councilor informed the parliamentarians of the capital Paraná that the two judicial measures against him had been extinguished, and that the process of annulment of his mandate in the Electoral Justice of Paraná ended this week, giving Borges the victory of the lawsuit and the action against him in State Justice filed by the APP-Sindicato before it becomes final.

Yesterday we had a trial at TRE-PR [Tribunal Regional do Paraná] who rejected the appeal aimed at revoking my mandate and disqualifying me for eight years. The appeal was filed by Councilor Rodrigo Reis [União]with PT deputy Ana Júlia and a PSol member“, contextualized Eder Borges, about the process of impeachment of the Mandate that died out this week.

“It all started when I ran for councilor in 2016 and got 4,200 votes, with a campaign cost of just over R$3,000. Accountability was given to the electoral tribunal and whoever was my attorney at the time started messing around with these bitcoin pyramids and forgot about life. He simply forgot to pay the last step of my billsexplained the alderman.

Finally, the alderman did not mention which pyramids his former lawyer was involved in.

CPI investigates financial pyramid crimes in the Chamber of Deputies

Due to the growing cases of financial pyramid scandals in Brazil, with some using the image of bitcoin, the Chamber of Deputies is investigating the crimes committed by several of these companies.

With this, the Financial Pyramids collects CPI information to help reduce fraud in Brazil in the future, also referred to as the Cryptocurrency CPI.

It is worth remembering that those who commit financial fraud with the Marco das Cryptocurrencies (Law No. 14.478/2022) may face imprisonment and a fine.
