Leaked documents about the new Xbox

A major leak from the legal battle between the FTC and Microsoft showed the tech giant’s roadmap for a mid-generation Xbox Series X console, but that wasn’t the only news.

The same document also revealed Microsoft’s preliminary plans for the next generation of Xbox – called “hybrid gaming platform”.

The system would combine local hardware and cloud computing to create an “immersive gaming and gaming platform.” applications” which would arrive around 2028, according to a leaked presentation.

“Our vision: to develop a next-generation hybrid gaming platform capable of harnessing the combined power of the customer and the cloud to deliver deeper immersion and entirely new classes of gaming experiences”says one of the slides.

“Optimized for real-time games and creators, we will enable new levels of performance beyond the capabilities of client hardware alone.”

Why cryptocurrency wallets?

Support for cryptocurrency wallets, including Bitcoin, on a large-scale gaming platform like Xbox could have several implications. This allows players to, for example, purchase in-game items, subscribe to services or even transfer money using cryptocurrencies.

Furthermore, the introduction of a feature like this could also allow for easier integration of blockchain-based games or the implementation of cryptocurrency rewards.

It is worth remembering that the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series, known for its hyper-realistic depiction of fictional urban worlds and crime elements, may be preparing to integrate cryptocurrencies into the next game, according to unconfirmed rumors circulating since 2021 circulate the industry.

Incorporating the feature would not only serve the interests of gamers, but could also tie in with Microsoft’s other blockchain initiatives.

The company has already shown interest in blockchain and decentralized technologies, suggesting that a move like this could be part of a larger strategy to embrace decentralized finance (DeFi) and other applications of blockchain.

It is important to note that these plans are still in the very early stages and are subject to change.

Microsoft has not yet made an official announcement about the inclusion of cryptocurrency wallets in future Xbox models and has not responded to requests for comment on the leaked documents.

About that, Phil Spencerhead of Xbox at Microsoft, commented on the leak, stating that “a lot has changed” and that Microsoft’s plans may have evolved, especially since some documents were from last year, but others were from previous years.

“I know this is disappointing, even though many of the documents are more than a year old and our plans have evolved.”Spencer said.

“We saw conversations about old emails and documents. It’s hard to see our team’s work shared in this way, because so much has changed and there’s so much to be excited about, now and in the future. We will share the actual plans when we are ready.”

While Microsoft’s plans may be subject to change, the mere fact that the company is considering such a feature is exciting.

If implemented, cryptocurrency wallet support could not only revolutionize the Xbox platform, but also serve as a catalyst for broader adoption of cryptocurrencies in the gaming world.
