A new trade union mobilization that tends to intensify in the coming months has been signaled by SINAL (National Union of Central Bank Employees), a situation that could even influence the arrival of the Drex as a new currency in Brazil.
In a new statement, SINAL stated that “After the success of PIX, Central Bank officials are now working on creating Drex, the new Brazilian digital currency“.
Between these and other innovations, such as Open Finance and the Receivable Values System (SVR), workers worked in search of benefits for Brazilian society, the union says.
However, SINAL says workers are being treated without any appreciation by the federal government, prompting new mobilizations.
New strike? The mobilization of unions indicates that central bank employees are undervalued
All the latest news that directly or indirectly affected Brazilian society, involving the Central Bank of Brazil”have been developed and implemented by BC employees with the aim of delivering even more benefits to society“.
But the union memorandum indicates that, even after much work and effort, the federal government has unfortunately not shown respect and appreciation for the employees.
In a note, SINAL stated in a video that “BC workers will intensify mobilizations to demand a worthy proposal to improve their careers“.
Finally, the video ends by saying that to remain strong, the central bank needs respected and valued employees. Apparently, new mobilizations should demand improvements in the careers of civil servants who work directly in Drex construction.
The latest strike at the Central Bank has delayed the plans of Drex, ex-Real digital
In July 2022, the three-month strike at the Central Bank of Brazil ended with several demands from career employees.
For example, during the strike the traditional Focus Bulletin was halted, as was the production of a number of key financial market statistics.
At the time, the strike ended without even bringing any benefits to workers, who after a year said they could once again paralyze their operations.
The creation of the so-called Real digital, which was renamed Drex in 2023, was postponed and was finally launched until the end of 2024. At the end of next year, Roberto Campos Neto’s government will end and he hopes to launch the new digital currency during his term, but if there is another strike, the plans could be frustrated.
