Brazilian open source beer raises R$235,000 through cryptocurrency DAO

Public Good announced its expansion into the international market. Originally from Brazil, the beer brand was inspired by the collaborative spirit of NFT projects like NounsDAO and aims to create a legitimate link between the web3 universe and the real world.

Public Good IPA has the recipe, brand and label available to the public on its website, so anyone can make their own beer or use brand elements to their own taste. In other words: an open source beer.

With recent funding of $45,000 from NounsDAO, a cryptocurrency DAO (in Portuguese: Decentralized Autonomous Organization), Public Good IPA plans to expand its operations to 5 locations worldwide, in addition to Brazil and Portugal, where it was already launched in June . (in collaboration with Cervejaria Narcose) and October (in collaboration with Cervejaria Canil), respectively.

In an interview, Fábio Sevá, founder of Public Good, talked more about his beer project related to the cryptocurrency market.

How did you come up with the idea to create a crypto beer?

A common pain point across NFT communities was how to attract more people to these projects. In my opinion, they were all competing for the same niche and online audience, and one of the alternatives was to attract people from outside.

So I thought that beer could be a way out, because it is a product with global appeal and with access to a relaxed and beneficial moment on a topic full of nuances like NFTs.

Can you explain why she calls it ‘public good’?

The origin of the name has to do with the type of project that inspired me to create the beer. They are all in the public domain, which means that the NFT artworks do not have any license to their intellectual property and anyone can remix or use them commercially without restrictions.

In this sense, anything in the public domain can now be considered a ‘public good’ or ‘public good’, and we use these arts on the label. Furthermore, in some of these projects (such as NounsDAO), participants inject money into a DAO and decide through governance instruments when and how it will be used. This is different from what happens in public management, for example, where our money is compulsorily used by those in government.

This is another, more current aspect of the concept of public good. I wanted to create a product that reflected this essence, so together with Narcose we decided that the Public Good recipe and label would also be in the public domain. Anyone can reproduce or remix the beer or brand. She’s not mine or Narcosis’s. It is a public good for the beer market.

Is it difficult to get funding for a Nouns project? Are there limits?

The process for obtaining financing from nouns is similar to that for obtaining capital from other sources. Basically, you have to prove that your idea is good and fits the investor’s objectives. In this case, to better understand the objectives of NounsDAO, it is best to get involved with the community and understand their ambitions and difficulties. There are no limits to what you can create within, but it’s important to take small steps and gain confidence before risking big projects.

What are the next steps of Public Good?

So far, everything we have done in Brazil and Portugal has been done with very little money or through partnerships. Now we will be able to invest in more robust actions to further spread our message through the intersection between physical products and web3. We will have more promotions in Brazil and we will close with other breweries in the US and Europe. In addition to beer, we also want to explore two new product categories.

Give 3 tips for someone who wants to know more about nouns and participate in the project.

Imagine that nouns are a tree full of branches. My biggest tip is to start with the trunk, knowing where the project comes from. There are several articles, videos and podcasts on this topic. Nouns have many nuances and you can delve deeper into the nuances that catch your attention the most: art, technology, politics, sports, events, social, etc…

Once you have chosen an interesting topic, try to understand the current situation in the community through discussions on Twitter or Warpcast, and especially by voting and commenting on proposals. It is there that the direction of the nouns is determined.

And finally, try to participate in a small proposal with your talent. Deliver more than promised (overdelivery) and don’t give up. The NounsDAO metaverse functions as a microcosm of everything that happens in the real world. You can come out of this experience with a great learning experience or good friends.
