Willian Bigode, the Fluminense player on loan to Athletico-PR, had 30% of his salary blocked by the court to compensate a victim of a cryptocurrency scam.

The decision, published by Globo Esporte, is in response to a request from the defense of Palmeiras full-back Mayke. Willian’s former teammate at the São Paulo football club invested in the company Xland Holding Ltda.

The Acre-based company claimed to manage customers’ cryptocurrencies. However, he has stopped withdrawing since 2022, claiming to have lost everything at the bankrupt brokerage FTX.

Besides Mayke, Gustavo Scarpa was also one of Willian’s former teammates from his time at Palmeiras to sue the company.

“5% per month”: Palmeiras defender manages to block 30% of Willian Bigode’s salary after cryptocurrency scam

With promises of earnings of 3.5% to 5% per month, Xland raised millions of reais from Brazilian soccer players. Alongside Gustavo Scarpa and full-back Mayke, Willian Bigode himself claims to have lost 17 million reais in the possible coup.

It turns out that the company told customers that it was backed by gemstones whose existence and value had not yet been proven. In other words, customers are afraid they have lost everything.

At the Court of Justice of São Paulo, a new decision determined that both Fluminense and Athletico-PR block 30% of Bigode’s salary. The court’s amount must remain available for Mayke’s compensation.

In a statement, Willian Bigode’s defense said they plan to appeal the decision to higher courts. Furthermore, the lawyers claim that the player, his partners and his company WLJC have no responsibility for the management of Xland.

What was Xland?

Xland’s customers sent the company’s owners and operators an investment amount. In practice, the cryptocurrency manager operating in Brazil without CVM authorization promised profitability between 3.5% and 5% per month.

Signing players Mayke and Gustavo Scarpa raised more than 10 million reais in the deal. Bigode claims to have lost R$17 million.
