Security firm urges users to update cryptocurrency wallets immediately

Cryptocurrency wallet users OKX walletproperty of the broker OKXare warned to immediately update their applications upon discovery of a critical security issue that could result in monetary loss.

O alert came from blockchain security company Certik, which highlighted the significant risks associated with the outdated app.

According to Certik, the flaw could allow hackers to gain access to users’ confidential data and cryptocurrencies. In a message on Twitter (X), the company emphasized the seriousness of the situation and warned that exploiting the vulnerability could lead to “potential compromise of confidential data and digital assets”.

“Attention! We urge OKX wallet users to update their iOS app to the latest version immediately.”, the company said, adding that it has identified and reported the critical remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability in the OKX iOS app.

OKX updates the wallet and fixes a bug

OKX’s response was swift: the company released an updated version of the app on the same day the warning was issued. The swift action is a positive example of how cryptocurrency companies can and should respond to security threats to protect their users.

However, to date, OKX has not commented on the matter, leaving some questions unanswered, including whether users have been affected by the flaw and, although the app has been updated on the Apple Store, users using the outdated version are at risk. .

The OKX Wallet incident is the latest in a series of cyberattacks targeting cryptocurrency wallets and exchanges. In November, Poloniex suffered a significant theft of R$500 million.

The hack was followed by another $100 million hack on HTX and cross-chain bridge Heco. Additionally, Atomic wallet users lost $35 million worth of bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH) and other tokens in June after updating to a new version of the iOS app.
