The developers decided: the next major test on Ethereum will be conducted on January 17. Yesterday it was decided that Dencun will be launched in a test environment in 3 weeks.

The intention was actually to start testing with Dencun at the end of 2023, but this was not possible due to all possible technical complications.
Tim Beiko, head of protocol support at the Ethereum Foundation, notes that Dencun’s update date is not fixed and could change if major issues arise. The team plans to publish a blog post detailing the update the week of January 8, 2024.
Therefore, if no major problems arise, let’s look at the following scheme:
– Gurli: January 17, 6:32:00 UTC
– Sepolia: January 30, 22:51:12 UTC
– Holesky: Feb 7, 11:34:24 UTC…and then Mainnet???? pic.twitter.com/JFRt0ZHAi8

Dencun update test schedule
Yesterday, Ethereum developers came together to create a draft timeline for the testing phase of the Dencun update. After the Goerli testnet on January 17, 2024, the developers plan to conduct tests on other networks: Sepolia on January 31, 2024 and Holesky on February 7, 2024. These are the three main Ethereum testbeds.
If all goes well, the developers plan to roll out the changes on the real Ethereum network by the end of February 2024.
What is Dencun?
The Dencun upgrade is the first major Ethereum upgrade since the Shapella upgrade earlier this year. The Shapella update made it possible to remove staked Ether from the blockchain.
An important aspect of the Dencun update is the implementation of Proto-Dankhardening. This new process aims to increase Ethereum’s data storage capacity.
By improving data processing capabilities and efficiency, the upgrade aims to improve the performance of rollups and thus the overall throughput and accessibility of the Ethereum network.
From the first to the second and third layers
In addition to the Dencun update, the collaboration between Avail and StarkWare was also discussed during the meeting. The goal of this collaboration is to increase data availability for application chains on the Starknet Layer 2 network. Using Madara, a customizable sequencer, this initiative aims to develop application chains that act as Layer 3 solutions within the Starknet ecosystem.
The role of ether
The developers also discussed Ethereum’s role in the broader context of decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain technology. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining Ethereum’s leading position and emphasized the need for continued innovation and adaptation to meet new market needs.
The meeting also provided a platform for developers to discuss future challenges and opportunities for Ethereum. From solving network congestion issues to improving user experience, developers have explored a range of topics crucial to Ethereum’s roadmap and the needs of its users.
