A 40-year-old cryptocurrency investor was shot dead by four criminals who approached him on Sunday evening (8) in Remedios de Escalada, Argentina.
Eugenio Sipatov, who was originally from Russia, has lived in Argentina since 1999 with his wife, who is a few weeks pregnant. He was a computer programmer and also a cryptocurrency seller.
According to local media, the crime took place shortly before 9:30 p.m., when Sipatov was talking to a friend at the door of his home. The criminals, who were on two motorcycles, approached the victim and tried to steal his mobile phone.

Sipatov resisted the attack and was shot in the back. He died shortly afterwards in hospital. Police are investigating the case and have already identified the four suspects who are wanted.

The victim’s wife, whose name was not released, said she was devastated by her husband’s death. She stated that the criminals did not take anything and that she believes they wanted to enter the house and steal.
“He had no money and had his phone, but they didn’t take it away”said the victim’s brother-in-law. “We suspected that they might want to enter the house and he resisted because the woman, my sister, is pregnant.”
The security camera footage shows the victim’s friend fleeing the scene, but Sipatov is shot by the bandits. Within seconds, the criminals tried to steal his cell phone and when he resisted, they shot him in the back.
In another shocking moment, an image of the woman performing CPR maneuvers on her own husband went viral on social media.
A neighbor who witnessed the crime said the four suspects were armed with handguns. The crime is yet another example of the violence plaguing Argentina. In recent months, the country has recorded an increase in robberies and murders.

Sipatov and his wife lived in a two-story house in Remedios de Escalada. The couple was in the process of building the house, which would become their first home as a family.
Sipatov was an experienced computer programmer and worked as a freelancer. He also had a cryptocurrency buying and selling business.
Sipatov’s wife, who is Ukrainian, is pregnant with a boy. The baby is expected next week. The crime caused an uproar in the community, with several neighbors expressing solidarity with the victim’s family.
