During the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, last Thursday (28), The Salvation Army (The Salvation Army) has announced that it will continue to accept bitcoin donations for its 134th Red Kattle campaign.
As part of the movement of Protestant churches in the US and other countries such as Brazil, The Salvation Army seeks to help people in situations of economic and social vulnerability. It also operates in other countries to provide support for disasters and other issues, supporting 27 million people annually.
In this edition, the fundraising campaign received the support of the Dallas Cowboys, who defeated the New York Giants, and singers Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll.

The Salvation Army has been accepting bitcoin donations since 2020
Since the December 2020 edition, when the world was facing health barriers, The Salvation Army opened its doors to cryptocurrencies.
By accepting Bitcoin and Ethereum as a means of donation, they showed the world that decentralized digital currencies came to bring hope to vulnerable people and families.
As the largest private provider of social services in the country, The Salvation Army faces a unique challenge in 2024.”With five fewer giving days this year, donations are needed more than ever to meet the growing demand for essential resources, especially as families continue to face economic challenges“said Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, National Commander of The Salvation Army. “Lainey Wilson’s heart for giving back resonates deeply with the spirit of the Red Kettle Campaign. We hope his performance inspires people to come together and support those facing hardships this season.”
Actions also took place last Thursday at partner companies such as Walmart, Sam’s Club, Kroger Family of Stores, Hobby Lobby, Mardel, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, JCPenney and hundreds of others. In addition to cryptocurrencies, The Salvation Army accepts donations in the form of airline miles, stocks, vehicles, coupons and various other items.
Cryptocurrencies as new gateways that enable fast and secure donations
The fact that The Salvation Army has been accepting donations in Bitcoin since 2020 demonstrates the growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies as a viable and modern alternative for financial transactions, even among traditional and philanthropic institutions.
This indicates that global organizations recognize Bitcoin’s potential to reach donors on an international scale, overcome banking barriers and attract a new generation of supporters already using digital technologies.
Furthermore, reinforces the idea that cryptocurrencies can provide transparency, efficiency and lower costs in financial transactionsCharacteristics that align with the objectives of organizations that seek to optimize resources in favor of their social goals.
