“The state does not need to impose Bitcoin on citizens,” says advisor Javier Milei

Ramiro Marra, a special adviser helping Javier Milei in the Argentine government, made an unconventional comment during a recent podcast about the fact that the state has no right to control the use of bitcoin for its population.

According to him, Brazil’s neighbor already applies a system of exchange rate competition. In other words, citizens should use whatever currency they want, whether it is the dollar, peso, euro or even Bitcoin.

According to Marra, state imposition harms the population, who loses the freedom to choose how to conduct their transactions. However, he acknowledged that the debate goes further than that, as many politicians will not readily accept hard-to-tax currencies.

Here in Argentina I believe that it is not necessary to have an official currency because having an official currency is determined by the state. Which ones do people want? We promote a system of monetary competitionMarra said.

“Is Bitcoin a currency or a financial asset? I don’t want to mention names, people treat them as they want,” said special adviser to Javier Milei

In the middle of his conversation on the podcast of the Adrián Sáenz channel, which has more than 3.2 million subscribers, Ramiro Marra continued to explain his anti-state thinking on bitcoin.

According to him, the state should not even impose a formal definition on Bitcoin, so that people can use the technology as they wish. “I don’t want to give it the title of financial asset that anyone can give, so that everyone is free to choose, for those who want to use bitcoin or for those who want to use Argentine pesos, dollars or euros, whatever. We cannot allow them to impose anything on us, because if they impose something on you, there is someone behind imposing it and you have no freedom. We promote the coin competition system. If I want to go to the supermarket and pay with bitcoin, I do so with bitcoin. And you decide how you trade and in what currency you receive. It is very easy to do this today with technological tools.Marra said.

He continued to say that his ideal should apply to everyone, as imposing on someone what currency to trade in is not a legal practice in his vision of freedom.

This is not the first time Marra has publicly defended bitcoin as an instrument of freedom

In October 2024, as bitcoin experienced a rise in market value, Ramiro Marra publicly defended the digital currency. According to him, Bitcoin is not a prize, but freedom.

“Bitcoin remains unstoppable and surpasses $87,000. How far will it go? More than a prize, Bitcoin is FREEDOM. It does not depend on governments, nor does it finance their political excesses. It is owned by whoever owns it, without intermediaries. Economic independence is in the hands of the people.”
