Competition for Judge requires knowledge of cryptocurrencies

A new public competition for deputy judges in Maranhão requires knowledge of cryptocurrencies. The public notice was published last Monday (25th), with registration scheduled to start next Wednesday (27th).

In recent years, several public tenders have attracted attention by charging candidates for knowledge in cryptocurrencies. For example, in 2021 communications from Caixa and Banco do Brasil asked interested parties to prepare for the topic, the subject of questions in the test.

In other words, it is becoming more common for events at different levels of the Brazilian hierarchy to show an interest in the subject. However, the evidence from the judiciary had not yet addressed the matter, drawing attention to the novelty.

Competition for judges in Maranhão requires knowledge of cryptocurrencies, starting salary of BRL 30,400

With an application deadline of May 26, 2022, with a cost of R$304.04, the registration for the deputy judge position in Maranhão will begin tomorrow.

Last Monday, the President of the Court of Justice of Maranhão (TJMA), Judge Lourival Serejo, and the Chairman of the Public Procurement Commission, Judge Jaqueline Reis Caracas, signed the publication of the public announcement.

For example, 15 vacancies and more reserve training for the position were announced. Of these, 11 are from broad competition, 1 for the disabled and 3 for black people.

And in the field of digital law, it draws attention to the fact that future judges should already arrive with knowledge of cryptocurrencies, especially its use for crimes.

“2- Criminal prosecution and new technologies. Cyber crime and cyber security. deep web and
dark web. Digital proof. Cryptocurrencies and money laundering.”

In addition, candidate judges should have knowledge of “general notions of smart contracts, blockchain and algorithms† Such a requirement shows that the Maranhão Court is already looking for people with experience in digital innovations and their application in law.

Do you need to arrive knowing?

This particular point of the public notice does not hide the fact that new lawyers and legal professionals in Brazil should already be preparing for the topic of cryptocurrencies, blockchain and the like.

This is because this issue has grown in Brazil, and this Tuesday (26), it will be on the agenda in the federal senate, which votes to approve the “Marco das Cryptocurrencies”, which should legalize the sector.

It is therefore important for those who are starting their career to train on this subject already. However, for professional judges already in their careers, the judiciary is promoting a series of events on the subject, such as a training planned for July in which federal criminal judges are to study about cryptocurrencies, which is another step in this direction.
