FGV has released a survey showing that the percentage of Brazilians buying cryptocurrencies is higher than the French and British. This would be a particular feature of Brazilian investors, who seek more risk in their investments.
The data was released last Monday (13), when the Center for Studies in Finance (FGVcef) of Fundação Getúlio Vargas’ São Paulo School of Business Administration compared the profiles of investors from Brazil, the United Kingdom and France.
What draws attention to the research is that Brazilians were less willing to invest for the long term and prefer medium-term assets for returns. Moreover, investors in the country follow the recommendations of bank managers more than savers from European countries.
Percentage of Brazilians Buying Cryptocurrencies Is Higher Than British and French, Says FGV
In November 2021, FGV spoke to 595 people, 200 from Brazil, 198 from France and 197 from the United Kingdom. In this way, the volunteers completed questionnaires in their native language on the topic of investments, the data of which were tabulated and now presented.
The first question asked participants to indicate where they invest their capital. For example, the main investments of Brazilians, British and French were in savings and personal insurance.
They then revealed holdings of government bonds, stocks, cryptocurrencies, real estate, currencies and commodities, and foreign investment.
In this study by FGV, it is noticeable that Brazilians were more willing to buy cryptocurrencies, with more than 10% of the participants stating that they invest in this sector, a value far above the French and British calculated value.
In addition to cryptocurrencies, Brazilians also stand out in investments in government bonds and fixed income, as well as currencies and commodities.
Cryptocurrencies Are Riskier Than Other Asset Classes
According to FGV, cryptocurrencies are considered the highest-risk assets in the study. A scale of 0 to 3 was used to measure this item, where 0 is no risk; 1, low risk; 2, medium risk; and 3, high risk.
In general, investors in the three countries agreed with the valuations of all assets, with cryptocurrencies as “most dangerous”.
With regard to the time horizon for their investments, the French focus on the medium and long term. The Brazilians and British, on the other hand, prefer medium-term investments, even though Brazilian investors invest the most in the short term and the least in the long term in the whole survey.
United among the investors of the three countries, their greatest fear is the permanent loss of their investment, revealing the greatest fear that worries the people of the three countries.
