Mining sector announces marches against tax reform

This is an initiative that originated from the workers of the companies and the contracting companies, and according to them it is intended that the Congress hears the petition and “do not endanger the country’s mining industry.”

“As proposed, the tax reform will affect thousands of Colombian families as jobs, the income of workers’ families, social investment in the communities in our area of ​​influence and the payment of taxes from royalties to the municipalities, the regions and the country”, confirmed Orieta Ortiz, one of the organizers of the march.

He added that if the mining sector is not sustainable, hundreds of thousands of Colombians will be affected.

“We are many families who live off mining, who we teach with mining. I am a proud mining woman, I do my job responsibly that my region does and every day we make sure we leave a positive legacy for La Guajira and the country,” Ortiz said.

He added: “It is not possible that a reform intended to develop social projectss are created that threaten the stability and future of hundreds of thousands of Colombians”.

“As citizens, we can understand that the government is seeking funding to carry out its investment plans. However, any action taken along this line must be balanced and the employment and investment that the different economic sectors generate for the country’s economy,” he said.

The march starts at 8 am from the main entrance of cerrejon (P1) to the main square of Albanian.
