Forum export port 2022 It takes place next Tuesday, December 6, starting at 8:00 AM at the Dann Carlton Hotel. The space is designed to know and interpret the reality that is part of the Magdalena River and in general the situation of the ports in the Colombian Caribbean.
Interesting: Oil production in Colombia up 0.57% in September
The Minister of Transport Guillermo Reyes, María Constanza García; Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, the German Puentes Aguilar; manager in charge of Cormagdalena and Luis Carvajal, general manager of Mamonal Colombia, are part of the twelve panelists who will share with the public the decisions and plans that determine economic routes.
In the group of panelists there is also Lucas Arizaexecutive director of Asoportuaria, who, in dialogue with EL HERALDO, anticipated a fundamental part of what will be addressed.
What is the focus of the forum in the 2022 edition?
“Leading the port future” is the phrase that describes the focus of the forum this year. This is mainly due to the port sector, although it manages an old industry such as maritime transport, it is also changing and evolving.
What can be expected from the panelists who will be part of the forum?
We will have government representatives who will share with us what has to do with the river project. The goal is to let the community know the details and the execution times. We will also talk about the changes in the port sector, including the energy transition.
How is the energy transition being tackled?
Wind projects demand a lot from an optimal port area that can meet those needs. Colombia also has excellent conditions to be a supplier of hydrogen and that is a point that will be discussed. The ports of Europe are already working on this and if we are not up to date, the bus will leave us.
What will the experts coming from Panama contribute?
Experts from Panama from the Maritime and Port Authority will come to explain guidelines on how they deal with many aspects for which they are a world power in the port industry.
Knowing experiences from other countries, especially Panama, is crucial. And besides, the main thing is to know what comes to the Magdalena River.
What role does Asoportuaria play in the update processes necessary for the service provided by the terminals?
At Asoportuaria, we have a responsibility not only to adapt to changes, but also to generate them in order to remain competitive agents. We must anticipate issues related to digitization, but also in the field of sustainability and stability. The changes and efficiency that we have for everyone depends on us, who are part of the industry.
What is the working climate like at the current central government?
We always try to cooperate with the authorities responsible for the navigability of the river.
Sometimes it’s simpler and sometimes it’s more complicated. We have had a smooth conversation with the current government where they have clearly spoken to us about what they want to do with the Magdalena River and see this as a priority.
We’re moderately optimistic about that because there’s been a lot of expectations raised in the past that didn’t materialize, but this time we’re willing to contribute to these solutions and in that order of ideas, we’re on the right track, in a time in which we have some stability.
The government, apart from the announcements, has already shown its commitment to the issue. We are ready to follow up and ensure execution times are respected.
How is Barranquilla’s harbor panorama defined today?
In the port area of Barranquilla, there is enormous potential to bring the cargoes that do not yet reach the city due to the inconveniences associated with the depths of the channel.
This is a process that does not require you to slack off. It’s a daily battle and the first thing to do is to ensure continuity of dredging, the only short-term solution. Cormagdalena announced a three-year dredging contract as river intervention work arrives. This contract is per service level and not per cubic meter, which is an advance and a guarantee for the operation of the port.
