In today’s session of the Permanent Commission for the Coordination of Wage Policy, the unions, the unions and the government have one last chance to reach an agreement on the increase of the minimum wage in 2023.
Exactly this Thursday, December 15, is the date on which the first legal term expires to reach agreement on the salary increase.
“We continue to work on the construction of a figure for the increase of the minimum wage in a unified way and we have until tomorrow to do it,” said Labor Minister Gloria Inés Ramírez, who is optimistic about the possibility of an agreement .
He indicated that in consultation with Finance Minister José Antonio Ocampo, they are defining measures to protect the purchasing power of wages without jeopardizing inflation.
He recalled that the government has identified a range of activities, goods and services that can be de-indexed from the minimum wage, mainly in the sectors of agriculture, education, public services, transportation, housing, etc.
“We are working on the measures that effectively enable Colombians to have not only the figure, but also the actions that guarantee the purchasing power of the minimum wage,” the minister said.
He pointed out that this process analyzes measures that affect or reduce food inflation, extortionate rates that prevent access to credit, and the prices of medicines, among other things.
For his part, the president of the National Federation of Merchants (Fenalco) and spokesman for the trade unions, Jaime Alberto Cabal, said that it is necessary to recalculate the extortionate rates to prevent the high consumer costs from having a negative impact on companies. and over-indebted employees.
The president of the CUT, Francisco Maltés, emphasized that the government has accepted the four proposals of the Unified National Command.
“We want to specify that the CUT is the only party that has put forward a proposal for a 20% salary increase and of course we have supported it enough because we believe that social justice should be practiced in this country,” he added.
