3 years ban from profession for bank employees who embezzled 2 tons

A former bank employee was banned from work for three years after stealing nearly 200,000 euros. According to the Banking Disciplinary Board, this is the first time that the board gives such a severe punishment to those who break the bank oath.

The man had been working at an unnamed bank since the end of August 2018. In December 2019 and January 2020, he transferred significant sums from the account of a deceased client’s heirs to his and others’ accounts. He also withdrew money with a debit card.

He forged bank statements to avoid attracting attention. The fact that the heirs in the banking systems also changed their phone numbers made it difficult for their colleagues to reach them.

Noticing suspicious transactions, a colleague of mine wanted to remain silent because of the 13 thousand euro payment. He was banned from practicing his profession for a year and a half last summer.

The man, now convicted, was released without notice in August 2020. He informed his employer that he used the money to pay off his debts. He will also be prosecuted and the damage he suffered will be compensated for.
