Port activity has been halted since early Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in two tanks of the company’s liquid factory Bravo Petroleum at the Compass terminal at the Via 40 area.
The reactivation of operations became viable after local authorities managed to bring under control the blaze that started at 4am on Wednesday.
At least 10 ships have been stranded in this area because they were unable to enter or leave the terminals where they were docked while firefighting activities were carried out from the access channel with several tugboats.
As explained by the director of Asoportuaria, the operation will be reactivated on Thursday evening for the boats that were ready to sail in the terminals.
It is estimated that there are five boats that were in this situation.
By Friday, the entry operations of the vessels awaiting entry will be reactivated, three of which were on hold in the anchorage area.
Data from experts in the port industry suggests that for every day of waiting, cost overruns for operating each ship amount to $25,000.
