Biofuel sales grew by 40% compared to 2021

According to National Federation of Biofuels of Colombia (Fedebiocombustibles), about 685,000 tons or 207 million gallons of biodiesel produced from palm oil were consumed last year, each of these gallons of renewable liquid energy replacing a gallon of fossil diesel, or ACPM.

In other words, the freight, passenger, parcel and freight transport sector broke its consumption record for the second year in a row, growing by almost 8% compared to 2021.

On the other hand, the nearly 17 million private vehicles, taxis and motorcycles circulating in the country used 394 million liters of fuel alcohol, of which 360 million were bioethanol produced from sugar cane in 6 plants in the valley of Cauca River and the BioEnergy plant in Puerto López in the Department of Meta.

Jorge Bendeck, president of Fedebiocombustibles, indicated that 85% of the resources generated by the sector went back to the Colombian countryside, to the workers who add value to the agribusiness where energy crops and refineries are located.
