Single allowance: who has to refund 210 Euro per child to INPS

Single-parent families will have to return a portion of the single and universal allowance to INPS for each dependent child; this measure has combined a range of interventions to support families with children in one facility since March 2022. Since October 2022, beneficiaries of this category of single-person allowance have seen the increase of up to 30 euros recognized if both parents have income from work, begin to be deducted from the monthly wage. They can now be asked to reimburse up to 210 euros per child. From where? It all started with a regulatory “fight” that allowed single-family units for seven months from March to September 2022 only to receive a statutory boost when “both parents” were found to be earning income from the business. But let’s go in order, try to clarify.

The retreat of INPS, which is responsible for paying the benefit, concerns single-parent families. In 2022, a monthly raise was paid for each dependent minor if “both parents” have income from work, pursuant to article 4, paragraph 8 of the Decree Law. 230/2021, which determines the sole allowance. For families with an annual ISEE of less than 15 thousand Euros, the increase is 30 Euros. Instead, it is gradually reduced to those exceeding this threshold, until reset for Isee incomes of €40k and above.

Many single-parent families also applied for a raise because the conditions stipulated in the law were not specified in the application form. And so the payments began in single-parent families. At least until last October when they were interrupted by INPS. In fact, the literal interpretation of the law only entitles families with two parents, both working, to receive the increased amount up to a maximum of 30 euros per month. Even if a single parent is a worker, it is not covered by the law, according to the institute. But before the increase was cut short in October, it reached everyone who applied.

Specifically, it was paid for seven months from March to September. Counting the maximum of 30 Euros per month, the maximum amount to be reimbursed is therefore 210 Euros for each minor child. The value will be even greater if there are multiple children. However, you will not be required to physically return the money received to INPS. The collection process will actually take place with a correction in the next checks.
