Gasoline prices soar: excise duties will be reduced if they exceed 2 euros

With gasoline prices above two euros, the government could not fail to intervene by reducing excise taxes. Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini takes office, while a new discussion table is being set up at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy with managers from fuel distributors. The positions of the gas stations, following the government’s amendment to the Transparency decree – not exactly in line with the agreements made before the revocation of the second day of the strike at the end of January – may not be easily malleable. Meanwhile, fuel prices on the network are falling: in “do it yourself” mode – explains the analysis of “Quotidiano Energia” – gasoline has dropped to 1,871 euros a liter, diesel is at 1,882 euros a liter; if you prefer the service, average prices already exceed two euros per liter.

«The agreement between all – reveals Salvini – is that if the price» of fuel «rises again like last summer, above 2 euros, measures will be taken; if this increase is achieved, the government will intervene with a blockade as it already did last year. Even if it reappears, due to the international energy crises, the government will intervene with the reduction of excise taxes, it seems clear to me”. At the table at the ministry, Urso points out that an organic measure is being worked on for the reorganization of the sector; also involved in this match – which, therefore, goes beyond the decree under analysis by the Chamber – are the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The fundamental themes are the restructuring of the distribution network, the development of the electric recharge network (in particular for distributors that may have to close), the contract, the relationship along the supply chain, electronic payment instruments.

Then, Urso points out that in the last week in Italy there was not “the dreaded impact of the new oil embargo on Russian products; on the contrary, there has been a steady slight decrease in prices’. Meanwhile, ahead of the decree, the issue of mandatory display of the average price in the Chamber remains paralyzed, where the device is being analyzed by the Productive Activities commission. But the gas station attendants Faib Confesercenti, the only ones to speak after the meeting at the ministry, ask for “respect for the rules and transparency throughout the supply chain” because it is “very easy to blame only the managers”.
