Van Loon leaves Shell Netherlands as boss and wants to travel

Marjan van Loon is leaving Shell Netherlands as CEO. Since 2016, he has been serving there as President Director. Van Loon (57) will be replaced by Frans Everts, who will continue to be responsible for the energy company’s global communications.

Van Loon became known to the general public thanks to its gas production in Groningen. In the parliamentary inquiry, he said Shell wanted to stop gas production, but the state wanted to keep production in the background.

Van Loon was also known for advocating an agreement between the tax authorities and Shell that would allow shareholders to not pay dividends tax.

Shell says Van Loon has decided to leave him. The company is working on a restructuring that will bring together several business areas. CEO Wael Sawan has recently resigned from several board positions in the Shell group.

FD reports that Van Loon looks forward to “enjoying things outside of work.” Our Volkswagen minibus is ready for a long journey and my saxophone will be used more often.”
