Schiphol wants thousands of fewer passengers per day than previously planned

Schiphol Airport is allowing fewer passengers than previously planned for the period up to the May holidays. Thousands of fewer passengers are allowed to leave every day than last month.

Schiphol confirms this in response to comments from Kees Boef, head of corporate affairs, in De Telegraaf. In it, it says it can take off about 70,000 passengers a day, 5 percent less than originally planned.

“We’re also from 40,000, so we’re heading in the right direction,” Boef says. The airport currently has a daily passenger limit of 50,000, but that ends on March 26. Schiphol said the restrictions will be over by then, but now it looks like a new limit will be set. Fewer passengers are accepted, especially in the morning.

Famine

Schiphol CEO Ruud Sondag has previously said that new measures need to be taken due to baggage handling bottlenecks. Hundreds of additional forces are needed there.

Schiphol wants to create a buffer by reducing the maximum number of passengers by 5 percent, thus avoiding major problems. It is unknown what consequences this will have for travelers.

Schiphol is currently discussing the exact details of the plans with processors and airlines.
