Billionaire profit expected further this year thanks to profit tax

Income taxes, which were collected at an all-time high last year, are expected to increase further this year. RTL Nieuws reported that it received 38.5 billion euros last year.

The cabinet initially expected 27 billion euros in profits tax. So there is a chance of 11 billion euros. This is because companies in the Netherlands have made more profits than expected.

According to sources from The Hague, NOS expects companies to generate much higher profits this year, and therefore profit tax revenues will continue to rise.

Energy cap and interest rates

By the way, this billion-dollar fortune doesn’t mean that the cabinet suddenly has a lot of money left. There are also setbacks. For example, the energy cap, whose cost has not yet been determined, has to be paid.

Also, interest rates on loans, including those from the government, are rising. Expired loans should be refinanced at higher interest rates. This can cost billions a year.

There will be more clarity about the state of public finances at the end of April because then the government will evaluate the spring memorandum.
