The national unemployment rate in January was 13.7%

The national unemployment rate stood at 13.7% in January, which is 0.9 percentage points lower compared to the 14.6% recorded in the same month of 2022.

This was announced by the National Administrative Service for Statistics (Danish) through the results of the Labor Market for the month of January.

In January, 21.4 million people were part of the working population in Colombia, which is 796 million more than in the same month of 2022.

The unemployed population, for its part, amounted to 3.4 million people, about 139 thousand fewer than in January last year.

Leonardo Trujillo, deputy director of Dane, explained that the occupancy rate for January was 54.7% and the overall participation rate was 63.4%, representing growth of 1.3 and 0.8 percentage points, respectively, compared to the same month of 2022.

The Dane reported that women registered an unemployment rate of 17.4%, which is 6.4 percentage points higher than that of men (11%).

With regard to these indicators, Dane’s deputy director claimed that they are very similar to the values ​​that have been used since before the pandemic caused by Covid-19, when the unemployment rate was 13.5%.
