In January 2023, 470,675 Colombians went abroad, representing a growth of 22% compared to the same month of 2022, and 7% compared to that of 2019. However, if we talk about the flow of Colombians abroad by region , South America is in first place with an increase of 88%.
According to calculations by the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Anato), based on figures from Migración Colombia, when compared to the destination countries Colombians visit most for tourism, events and business reasons, Mexico topped the list with a participation of 22 %; followed by the United States at 21%; and the Dominican Republic, with 10%.
It should be noted that some of the countries that showed the greatest growth in the arrival of Colombians in January, compared to the same month of the previous year, were Ecuador with an increase of 166%; Argentina 80%; Dominican Republic 69%; Brazil 61% and Panama 42%.
“It is time to take advantage of the fact that fewer and fewer countries require visas for travelers from our country. It is now even possible to enter destinations such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay using only the digital ID, facilitating travel to nearby places of great tourist wealth,” said Paula Cortés, executive president of Anato.
He added that despite the volatility of the dollar, 2023 will begin to demonstrate the interest of Colombians in continuing to plan trips abroad, allowing travel agencies and other tourism service providers to verify the recovery in the sector and to continue to design packages according to current market trends.
