Labor reform must have a balance between workers and employers: AmCham

According to the union, there should be rules that encourage the generation of new formal jobs, ensure productive dynamics and do not increase labor costs to the detriment of employment and taking into account the economic and social context facing the country.

AmCham Colombia’s appeal was made during a meeting with the Minister of Labor, Gloria Ines Ramirez, and the ALIADAS alliance trade unions and business associations, which warned of the damage it would do to employment and Colombian business dust the adjustment of the daytime hours so that it ends at 6 p.m., the increase in the value of night and holiday allowances, the new provisions regarding service contracts and the obligation to convert current contracts into fixed-term contracts.

“In a country where informality reaches 58% and where micro, small and medium-sized businesses represent more than 90% of the business fabric and 35% of national GDP, it is essential to develop policies that help to encourage formalization and providing tools for job generation, not seeing only one side of the coin, creating an imbalance in the worker-employee relationship,” he said.
