For this Easter season, the passenger flow that will be mobilized by land transport is expected to reach 4.9 million, which would represent an increase of 6.5% compared to the 2019 figures.
This is reported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, which indicated that there is optimism in the tourism sector for this season, especially in religious destinations that also have a wide craft, cultural and gastronomic offer.
However, these expectations have been tarnished by the suspension of operations within a month of two low-cost carriers Viva and UItra Air, affecting thousands of travelers.
The Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Anato) assured that Easter has been one of the most important holiday seasons in terms of passenger movements at the national and international level, but amid the situations of the year presented so far, the panorama does not seem to be what businessmen expected in the industry.
Travel agencies are reporting about a 30% drop in revenue for this time of year, compared to those recorded on the same date in 2022.
However, the government’s optimism is based on international flight reservations for this season, which show very positive expectations.
According to the Forwardkeys platform, more than 50,000 reservations have been made on flights from abroad, a growth of almost 33.6% over the same period in 2022 (with 38,137 reservations); 245.7% compared to 2021 (with 14,736) and also a positive variation of 38.4% compared to 2019 (36,797).
The largest expected flow of foreign visitors during Holy Week comes mainly from the United States (28.4%) with 14,477 reservations; Mexico: 6.3%, with 3,205 reservations, Chile (5.7%) with 2,923 reservations; Costa Rica: 5.4%, with 2,736 reservations and Ecuador (4.9%) with 2,474 reservations.
“We count on the participation and solidarity actions of the various airlines in Colombia before the departure of Viva Air and Ultra Air from the market, and on the measures taken by the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Transport so that domestic flight reservations can be made. as a whole,” confirmed the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo on the case of domestic flights.
