Edith Schippers is stepping down as DSM President as she was given a different role in the merging company

Edith Schippers is leaving her post as Head of DSM Netherlands and Europe, her role at the company will change. In the Senate elections, the leader of the VVD will be replaced by Vice-President Joris de Beer as President of the Netherlands on May 1.

Schippers has been working for the international chemistry group, headquartered in Heerlen, since 2019. Previously, he was a member of the VVD and Minister of Health in the two Rutte cabinets. He was one of Rutte’s most important advisers at the time, and many VVD members see him as a possible successor if Rutte resigns as prime minister and party leader.

Schippers will remain chairman until DSM’s merger with Swiss fragrance manufacturer Firmenich is complete. Subsequently, the merged company will be responsible for the integration and optimization of corporate real estate in DSM-Firmenich. According to DSM, the European duties that Schippers currently hold will be handled differently after the merger is complete.

First room selections

Schippers was also chairman of the chemical company’s pension fund and chairman of the Foodvalley organization, which works to develop a sustainable food system. He will hand over these duties to his successors in the coming months.

On Tuesday, May 30, state legislators and electoral boards in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba will elect members of the Senate. Therefore, Schippers will also move to the Senate as VVD party leader.
