Paper newspapers are no longer published on King’s Day. DPG Media, owner of magazines such as Trouw, de Volkskrant and AD, informed its subscribers today that the newspaper will not be delivered that day.
NRC, owned by Mediahuis, will also not appear on King’s Day. This has been true for Het Financieele Dagblad, De Telegraaf and Het Parool for some time now.
According to the DPG, it is no longer possible to distribute newspapers anywhere in the Netherlands on King’s Day. “Due to free markets, some parts of cities, especially after the early morning hours, cannot be reached by transport trucks, and couriers have difficulty reaching all addresses.”
This is why, for example, Het Parool is no longer delivered on King’s Day – many places in the capital back then were difficult to reach. It is unclear whether the decision was also due to a shortage of newspaper delivery personnel or a cost savings.
The media group writes that online news will be featured.
On other public holidays such as Easter Monday, Whit Monday, Ascension Day, and Christmas, it has been customary for a long time that paper newspapers have not been published.
