Gas restriction affects 2 million users in the southwest of the country

More than two million users in the coffee region and southwestern Colombia have been affected by the curtailment of natural gas service due to the closure of part of the Mariquita – Cali gas pipeline after discovering a thermal anomaly that could compromise the integrity of the pipelines. can affect.

The departments affected by this situation occurring in the gas pipeline of the company Transportadora de Gas Internacional (TGI), in the Cerro Bravo sector in Tolima, are Tolima itself, Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, Nariño, Cauca and Valle del Cauca.

The suspension of the service will affect residential, commercial, industrial and vehicle users.

The marketing companies and service providers in this field reiterated to users that during this restriction, the valves of the metering center, the internal network and the gas appliances must remain closed.

For users who still have natural gas, it was recommended to use it rationally and to implement additional energy alternatives.

For its part, the Cali Mayor’s Office reported that gastronomic establishments are allowed to use piped propane gas as long as they meet established human safety regulations.

This is to maintain the service, taking into account its fundamental role in generating employment and attracting numerous tourists.

While alternatives are being sought to restore natural gas transportation, industry companies point out that there is currently no estimated time for natural gas service to be restored in the southwest of the country.

TGI has announced that it will begin laying a flexible pipeline, which is expected to be completed in approximately nine days or as soon as possible.

It should be remembered that the thermal phenomenon of overheating and vapor emission detected is under evaluation by the Colombian Geological Survey and cannot be related to the activity of the Cerro Bravo volcano, which is located at the green level ( active, but at rest).
