Amazon and the US Embassy launch a call that promotes Mexican entrepreneurs

US Embassy in Mexico and company Amazon launched this Wednesday the call for the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 2023, which provides training, knowledge, tools, alliances and access to essential elements to grow fellows’ companies.

At a press conference, US Ambassador Ken Salazar said the initiative was “proud” because encourages women to promote their ideas and endeavors and thereby influence the growth of the country’s economy.

“You work hard. they have good ideas and that is why they can create good companiesyou are part of the economy,” Salazar said at a press conference.

In addition, he said that he was optimistic, since at present many women in leadership across industries, and business is no exception.

Launched this Wednesday, the competition will be backed by U.S. companies Amazon, UPS and AT&T with nearly 2.5 million pesos ($140,000) dedicated to supporting talent and creativity. more than 700 women who will take part in this program.

Scholarship recipients come from states such as Baja California, Campeche, Mexico City, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz and Yucatan.

Reuben Smith-Won, Amazon’s director of public policy in Latin America, emphasized the importance of this program and noted that the company is interested in supporting companies “regardless of its size for sale on Amazon.”

They have already trained 32,000 Mexican entrepreneurs between 2021 and 2022.

“That’s why this global collaboration aims to support women entrepreneurs to increase the success of their businesses,” she elaborated.

The Women Entrepreneurs Academy is a US Department of State program created in 2019 to promote the ingenuity and talent of women entrepreneursand to build networks and access the tools that help them succeed.

“At Amazon, we know the importance of continuing to support SMBs, women entrepreneurs and Mexican artisans. also so they can grow their business and cover both the entire national territory and expand their ideas, their products and their brands beyond the borders of Mexico,” he specified.

Among the requirements for access to this program: to be a woman over 18 years of age, to have their own business/entrepreneurship that operates, availability of time to perform program operations, an obligation to complete it and have computer equipment with a working camera and Internet access.
