Let’s talk about tourism: success stories in Mexico and Brazil

On Wednesday, May 31, the Let’s Talk About Tourism meeting will take place in Barranquilla, with the aim of publicizing successful strategies at the international level that can be applied in the city and across the Atlantic to ensure that business travelers extend their stay here and enjoy the entertainment or leisure offer that these destinations offer them.

36.4% of tourists who traveled to Barranquilla in 2022 did so for business. Now the goal is for them to extend their stay to enjoy the attractions of the city and the Atlantic Ocean and experiences in art, architecture, heritage, crafts, fashion, design, popular culture, gastronomy, nature and adventure .

For this reason, the Destination Team, consisting of the District Mayor’s Office, the Atlántico Governor’s Office, ProBarranquilla and the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce, CCB, is developing the Meetings and Leisure Tourism strategy that combines business and entertainment.

This seeks to increase the economic impact of this industry, which mobilizes 1,500 million participants worldwide, generates an income of $1.07 trillion and generates 10.3 million jobs, according to the International Association of Congresses and Conventions, ICCA Global.

Manuel Fernández Ariza, Executive President of the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce, emphasized: “We are driving the Tourism Cluster strategy, with the aim of making Barranquilla one of the top 15 destinations in Latin America in five years events and business”.

Its importance in Barranquilla and the Atlantic is measured by these numbers: 15,306 companies dedicated to this business segment that generates 173,069 jobs. Barranquilla is the fifth most visited city in the country by foreign tourists.

The opening will be officiated by Manuel Fernández Ariza, who will present Barranquilla and the Atlantic Ocean strategy as an events and business + leisure destination, to promote the competitiveness, prosperity and sustainability of the business fabric of the value chain of the to stimulate the tourist industry.

The event will take place at Hotel Movich, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m

After the opening of the event Let’s talk about Tourism, José Ángel Díaz Rebolledo will give his presentation, who will participate in the success story of Magical Towns, a program implemented in Mexico to create opportunities for economic and social development, through tourism, with the potentiation of intrinsic activities.
