The Atlantic was the country’s third highest economic growth department in 2022 at 9.3% compared to 2021, reaching a gross domestic product (GDP) of $63.7 trillion. In 2021, this percentage was 12.4%.
However, the Atlantic is growing above last year’s national average, which was 7.5%.
According to departmental gross domestic product (GDP) statistics released this Tuesday by the National Administrative Service of Statistics (DANE), out of 32 departments and Bogotá DC, only nine show higher growth than the national, below Bogotá DC by 9.5%; Atlantic with 9.3%; Bolívar with 8.6%; Valle del Cauca with 8.1% and Cundinamarca with 7.8%. In turn, San Andrés and Providencia grew by 11.7%
On the other hand, of the 24 remaining departments growing below the national average, Antioquia stands out at 6.9%, Santander at 5.3%, Huila at 4.2% and Casanare at 1.7%.
In turn, the areas with the highest GDP in 2022 were Bogotá DC and Antioquia with 357.2 billion and 212.5 billion respectively.
In the period analyzed Bogotá DC, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca and Santander concentrated 54.8% of the national GDP; if the next two participating economies, Cundinamarca and Atlántico, are added, they account for 65.5% of Colombia’s GDP.
In 2022, the national GDP per capita was $28.3 million and the departments that recorded a higher figure than the national were Meta, Casanare, Bogotá DC, Santander, San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, Antioquia, Boyacá and Valle del Cauca.
In the Caribbean region, the economic activities that explain the behavior of GDP in the region are, according to their contribution, wholesale and retail trade, transportation, accommodation and food services with a growth of 12.5%; followed by manufacturing at 10.5%; artistic, entertainment and recreational activities13 at 47.3% and construction at 10.9%
In the case of the Atlantic, the highest GDP activities were manufacturing ($10.4 trillion) and wholesale and retail trade; repair of automobiles and motorcycles; Transport and storage; Shelter and food services ($13.6 billion).
