Decision on new exploration contracts will be taken in 6 months: Bonilla

Finance Minister Ricardo Bonilla assured that the decision to sign new hydrocarbon exploration and production contracts in the country would be made within six months, following the release of a new reserve report from the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH).

The official explained that this new report will include data that will be assessed, such as offshore gas discoveries to determine whether or not reserves will increase.

“If the valuation gives good results, there is speculation that reserves would increase in 10 or 20 years, but I don’t want to speculate. We will receive the report in six months and the experts will say,” he added.

However, he pointed out that he is not aware of any company’s interest in executing new contracts in the country in any of the areas with potential. “If you want a new contract, tell us where the geological studies are and in what part of the country.”

It should be noted that the national government had initially indicated that this decision would be analyzed with the reserve report 2022 published by the ANH last week in the context of the Naturgas Congress, which showed that gas reserves fell to 7.2 years in 8 years . and oil from 7.6 to 7.5 years.

Bonilla highlighted Ecopetrol’s recent discovery in Meta, noting that companies that have concession contracts in effect can conduct exploration. “Those who have the 202 current exploration contracts have the area at their disposal, there are 17 million hectares in concession for hydrocarbon exploration,” he said.

Regarding what the rise in the price of gasoline will be, Bonilla assured that how much it will be has not been determined and that diesel will not rise at least in June.

He recalled that exactly in June the increase of this fuel will be reviewed, the price of which remains frozen.

We are in talks with Ecopetrol and the Ministry of Mines to “make the numbers fair” and find out what will happen to prices going forward.

“For now, we have a big gap between the national price and the internal price and we cover it with the budget and as far as the gap gets smaller, the shortfall (of the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund) will be closed and eliminated,” he said. said. .
