Italy’s economy grows faster than Paris and Berlin. “In the first quarter of 2023, GDP increased quarterly by 0.3% in the United States and 0.2% in France, while it fell by 0.3% in Germany”, says Istat, which today released the Quarterly Economic Accounts for the first quarter 2023 on GDP, added value, consumption, investments and external demand. Italy’s GDP, on the other hand, grew by 0.6% in the first quarter from the previous quarter, more than that of France, Germany and the US. “In terms of trend, there was a growth of 1.6% in the United States and 0.8% in France and a fall of 0.2% in Germany”, highlights Istat. Once again, it is lower than the Italian value (+1.9%). “Globally, the GDP of the euro area countries increased by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter and by 1.3% compared to the first quarter of 2022”.
“Encouraging and positive data arrives this morning from Istat: Italian GDP continues to grow more than other eurozone nations and the United States, with better performances than France and Germany,” said Tommaso Foti, leader of the Fratelli group d Italy in the Chamber. «In the first quarter of 2023 – he said – in fact, gross domestic product increased by 0.6% compared to the previous quarter and 1.9% compared to the first quarter of 2022, with optimistic forecasts of an increase of around 1% in 2023. These data, added to the resumption of the fall in inflation in May, attest to the success of the economic policy conducted by the Meloni government”.
